I’m an adjunct faculty member at my alma mater, Texas A&M - Commerce (aka East Texas State), running the undergrad Art Direction program. The small but storied Art department can boast of alumni such as Mark Seliger, John Norman, Chad Rhea,
and Michael Schwab. The art direction program, in its heyday, was run by Rob Lawton (a One Club Hall Of Fame inductee) and Stan Richards (founder of The Richards Group). I was tasked with bringing back some of its lost sheen. From 2006, my students (predominantly small-town Texas kids) consistently starred in every important student show they entered, most notably The One Show, where the school earned a permanent place in the Education Festival. They found places for themselves at agencies like Goodby Silverstein, W+K12, Leo Burnett, The Richards Group, Ogilvy, BBDO, and Publicis, to name a few. It is an intensely cathartic experience, and immensely satisfying. Here are a few of my brightest.
